At the beginning of January, I negotiated a pedal trade with Kim Coffey of
Glenmoore, PA. I had a Yellow Fulldrive II that I would trade for a 1 of 1
Zvex Sparkle Finish SHO plus a Fulltone '70. Kim was insistent that I ship
my pedal to him first because he was in the effects business(with
referneces) and would not ship anything until I sent him the FD first.
I made a cursory check with a couple of references, made sure I could
reverse lookup the phone and street address, and satisfied that I could find
him if I needed to, I shipped the FD January 2, FedEx overnight, (and now
have confirmation that it was received by January 3, 2001). I called him
the next day with the tracking number and he said he would go ahead and send
the SHO and '70 via UPS Red Label that day(Jan 3). That was on a Wednesday.
I called Friday night to let him know that the pedals did not come. He said
there was a snow storm in PA and he couldn't make it to the shipping center,
even though FedEx obviously made it to his house. He said he had a batch of
pedals going out on Saturday and that my pedals would be sent then. At this
point he also acknowledged receiving the FD. I waited for another week and
recieved nothing. I called him again on Thursday, Jan 11, and he could not
remember why he had not shipped the pedals but again he assured me they
would be shipped the next day. Considering that weekend was the MLK federal
holiday, I waited until Wed, Jan 17 to call. He said the pedals were sent
out Friday, Jan 12, via USPS Priority Mail. I asked for a tracking number
or receipt number. Kim claimed to have niether since he 'never had a
problem with them before'. This was direct contradiction to what he told me
in the beginning, which was that he only shipped UPS Red Label.
I have called him the past 3 days in a row and left messages with my number
and for him to call back ASAP. I also called his father-in-law's number
this morning(that's the address where he wanted the pedals shipped) and left
another message. I have been extremely patient even thought it is obvious
he has lied to me at least twice. I am now checking into what legal options
I have.
I have dealt with several of the folks on AGA and AGE and had very good
luck. I have also talked to several people who deal with Kim on a regular
basis and never had any problems. This deal is going on 4 weeks without
resolution, and because of this, I will never be able to trust deals like
this again. Even if I received the pedal today, I spent $45 shipping to him
overnight under the belief that he was going to do the same. I've also
wasted a good bit of time checking the apartment office for a package that
he knew wasn't even in the mail yet. I believe 99% of those on AGA and AGE
are trustworthy, it's the other 1% that screws it up for everybody else.
Caveat emptor.
If anyone has ever had something like this happen, please let me know your
recourse or how was resolved. I'd also like to hear from anyone else who
does business with Kim Coffey. I would much prefer to handle this without
legal means, but I refuse to let this go.

Kim Coffey (aka Mr.Scary) ripped me off for $600.
And he wonders why a certain friend doesn't return his calls.
(of whom he just left a voice mail for)
