I think you explained it yourself - the RP-55 is newer. Digitech's
website doesn't go into a lot of detail. But both seem to be based on
the same "audio DNA" chip, and both have the same controls. Most of
the RP pedals have the same effects and amp models, anyway. But the
more expensive ones give you more ability to adjust them.

I had an RP-100 for a while. It sounded pretty good after I spent time
tweaking the patches and finding the right way to amplify it. It
sounded best through the FX return of a solid state amp. I tried it
with other amps, and through a PA, but it sounded best this way.

As well as being newer, the RP55 is Chinese. The RP50 was originally made in the USA--though eventually a Chinese model (identical on top but labeled RP50V on the bottom) replaced it.

Hi,

I have been using RP50 for practice and borrowed a RP 55 from friend and tested recently. The differences are only build quality and place of manufacturing. RP50 is made in USA and RP55 in china with much degraded quality. all other features looks same.

RP 50 wins.
